If you're evaluating progeCAD as your next CAD platform — or as a cost-effective alternative to AutoCAD — one of the first decisions you'll make isn't about features. It's about how you want to license the software. progeCAD offers three main licensing paths — Single, Flex, and Network (NLM) — designed to fit everything from a solo drafter to a distributed, multi-office team.
Which progeCAD License Is Right for You?
A guide to Single, Flex, and Network licensing — and how to choose the one that fits your workflow.
1. Single License — For the Dedicated User
A Single License is the most straightforward option. It's registered to one computer at a time. This is the right fit if you:
- Are an independent drafter, architect, engineer, or designer who needs CAD available constantly
- Work primarily from one workstation
- Want the simplicity of a license that "just works" without networking configuration
A Single License can be deactivated and moved to another computer if you upgrade hardware. It only runs on one computer at a time — switching machines means manually deactivating the license on the old one first.
2. Flex License — For Users Who Move Between Computers
The Flex License solves a key limitation of the Single License: you can install progeCAD on multiple machines — office, home, client sites — and check the license in and out online in seconds. No manual deactivation needed.
An internet connection is required to check a license in or out, but once assigned to a machine you can work offline. This is the right fit if you:
- Regularly switch between a desktop and laptop
- Work from more than one location
- Your team works across multiple offices or remotely
3. Network License (NLM) — For Teams That Share Seats
The NLM is built for teams where more people might need CAD than use it simultaneously. Install progeCAD on as many computers as you like across your office. Only as many people can run it at the same time as you have purchased NLM seats.
A lightweight NLM server manages the license pool — it runs on any existing office computer and requires no special hardware. NLM licenses can also be checked out to a laptop for offline use. This is the right fit if you:
- Have more employees who might need CAD than need it all day every day
- Your team works in shifts or on rotating projects
- Want to install broadly and pay only for concurrent usage
Corporate & Site Licensing
For larger organizations, progeCAD offers Corporate Site Licenses (unlimited users at one location) and Corporate Country/Global Licenses (unlimited users across a country or globally). Contact us for pricing.
A Note on iCARE
Regardless of license type, iCARE is progeCAD's optional annual subscription for updates and priority support. It's not a license model itself — your license is still a one-time perpetual purchase. iCARE subscribers receive every new version as it releases and priority technical support.
Mix and Match as You Grow
Many companies combine Single Licenses for power users with a pool of Network or Flex Licenses for occasional or remote users.
