For P&ID schematics, piping plan drawings, and isometrics it is a practical alternative at a one-time price. progeBILLD also builds 3D pipe routing models using ACIS solid modeling, and can generate plan and elevation views from them or export to STL and 3D PDF. What it is not is a spec-driven parametric plant modeling environment — progeBILLD does not carry a live piping specification database that validates component selection the way Plant 3D does. For drafting-led piping work it fits well; for fully spec-driven 3D plant design it does not replace Plant 3D.
